HP USB-C Dock G5

1.What is the PD charging output of this docking station, and what is the wattage of its power supply?
Answer: The docking station provides PD 3.0 charging. It supports a maximum of 100W exclusively for HP ZBook laptops, while for non-HP laptops, the maximum output is 75W. Its external power supply is 120W.

2.Which computers, phones, and tablets are compatible with this docking station? What operating systems does it support?
Answer: It can be used with any computer, phone, or tablet that has a USB-C port, provided the port supports data transfer and video output signals. It supports Windows, macOS, Android, and Chrome OS. We haven’t tested it with Linux, so its compatibility with Linux is unclear.

3.Can the indicator button on the docking station control the computer’s power on/off?
Answer: This button is compatible with most HP laptop models. Based on my tests, it also works with my NUC (Cheetah Canyon) and my Dell Latitude 7400 laptop. However, it doesn’t work with Apple MacBooks. I’m not sure about its compatibility with other computers, but generally, such power buttons only support the brand’s own computers. It’s surprising that this one works with Dell laptops and Intel NUCs. We are waiting for feedback from friends regarding other computer models.

4.How many monitors does the docking station support, and what is the maximum resolution?
Answer: Below are my actual test results:

  • Both my Intel NUC (with DP 1.4) and Dell Latitude 7400 (with DP 1.2) can only reach a resolution of 4K at 30Hz when connected to the docking station.
  • My M1 MacBook Air and M2 Max MacBook Pro both support 4K at 60Hz. However, only one external monitor can be connected when using a Mac.
  • When using Windows, I successfully tested two 2K monitors running at 60Hz.
  • Note that this also depends on the performance of the computer’s graphics card, as the external monitors rely on the computer’s own graphics processing capabilities.
